Ancestral Purification for the Solstice Light

Posted on

Long before the golden rays of the winter solstice touch the stones of the Qoricancha, a silent, rigorous transformation occurs within the walls of Cusco.

The upcoming solar alignment demands absolute purity; the human body must become a clean vessel capable of holding the high-vibration energy of the reborn sun. To achieve this, practitioners commit to a profound Andean spiritual cleansing process during the second week of June. This ritual preparation strips away the physical and mental densities accumulated over the past year.

Fasting and the Emptying of the Vessel

In the ancestral tradition, the preparation begins with a strict energetic fast known as the Sasi. For three days, practitioners consume nothing but raw white corn and pure water, entirely eliminating salt, chili peppers, and sexual activity.

This sensory withdrawal serves a vital psychological purpose. By denying the ego its habitual comforts, the practitioner forces their inner energy (Kawsay) to consolidate. This intentional vacuum sharpens your spiritual focus. In the crisp, freezing mornings of June, an empty physical body vibrates at a higher frequency, shifting your awareness away from material survival and directly toward cosmic reception.

The Fire of Realignment

The climax of this Andean spiritual cleansing takes place at midnight through the ritual of the Sankhu. Priests mix the blood of sacred offerings with white corn flour to create small, consecrated cakes. Before consuming them, practitioners pass these cakes over their bodies to absorb any lingering Hucha (heavy, stagnant energy).

The priests then cast the remaining dough into ritual fires (Nina). As the flames consume the physical representations of their burdens, practitioners watch their old attachments, fears, and psychic blockages transmute into ash. This fire crucible ensures that you do not step into the new solar cycle carrying the dead weight of the past.

“Do not expect the sun to fill a cup that is already full of old water. The fire of June must first hollow you out, leaving a clean space where the new light can settle and grow.”

The Codes of Purity Solstice

  • Sasi: A sacred fast or period of strict ritual abstinence designed to purify the physical and energetic bodies.
  • Sankhu: Consecrated ceremonial corn cakes used to absorb and draw out heavy, stagnant energies during rituals.
  • Pichay: The act of sweeping, clearing, or cleansing an energetic field.

The Cleansing Solstice Altars

  1. The Fountains of Amarukancha: Located in the historic core of Cusco, these ancient subterranean water channels provide an intense, grounding energy perfect for the initial stages of the Sasi fast.
  2. The Ritual Terraces of Puka Pukara: This red fortress outside the city acts as a protective shield. Performing fire purification rituals here in mid-June leverages the iron-rich stone to anchor your personal power.
